English Tudor Revival Refresh Los Angeles boasts many English Tudor Revival homes — but it’s not often we have the opportunity to stage one. So this was a real treat for us. We loved the thoughtful details our developer client added to refresh and reimagine this stunning home. Linen, burlap, rough-hewn textural elements and large-scale decor were called for in this staging. We love the Living Spaces Utopia sofa for its white linen upholstery and comfy lines. Its scale stands up well to large, beam-ceiling homes like this one. Carved wood tables and taupe swivel chairs, handmade accessories and texture galore rule in this living room. A mudcloth pillow found at Marshalls online, nubby seagrass rug and a modernized linen wingback never fail to work in classicly designed homes. Our rustic wood mirror echoes the wood tone of the built-in shelving. Well-traveled, worldly, interesting. Objects used in staging need to convey the personality of each home’s fictitious inhabitant. We’re always searching thrift stores and flea markets for decor that speaks volumes, but in a subtle whisper. A home’s entry is your first opportunity to grab interest. Here, an upholstered bench fits snugly inside a stairway wrap while an intriguing framed museum poster and African baskets tell of a life well-lived. A peek from above: There are so many charming details in this home’s architecture. Our staging simply enhances and draws the eye to them, without competing for attention. This home’s dining room is so spacious that it required a 105” locally hand-made reclaimed wood dining table from Candidate Wood. We love the crisp lines of the cream and black framed dining chairs paired with a black-border seagrass rug. The drama of a black Chinese altar table and two hammered brass ottomans squares up with the finely detailed dentil molding above. A classic bust on stand, tall vase and brass object provide scale and interest. A large brass windowpane mirror brings a round shape into the space and reflects the scene back into the room, providing light and texture. Stunning kitchen pendants bring contrast and architectural form overhead, while our rustic bar stools complete the picture below. Proper-scale vases, wooden dough bowls and greenery adorn the kitchen island. This home features multiple open shelves made of rustic wood and metal brackets. We enjoyed styling each and every one of them. Here, in the kitchen, vintage pottery, cookbooks, ironstone plates and crockery conjure thoughts of home-cooked meals and cozy, quiet evenings, Off the kitchen, a fully appointed family room features a linen Chesterfield sofa, a soft tufted velvet armchair and carved wool rug underfoot. Framed sketches of horses and simple, honest accessories highlight this comfy TV lounge. We love a well-stocked pantry. And we take every opportunity to stage them with antique utensils, vintage crock pots and intriguing objects. The primary bedroom feels warm and inviting — with neutral linens and a combination of warm and cool neutrals. That’s the beauty of neutral colors. They love to be mixed. We are huge fans of H&M Home pillow covers, like this nubby stripe. Even the primary bedroom boasts its own mini fireplace. Light a few candles of different heights or style simply with a few birch logs in a basket, like we did here. We added a demijohn of greenery and a brass medallion over the mantle. Talk about vanity goals and closet envy. An ample corridor between the primary bedroom and bath provides the storage and primping space of your dreams. A guest bedroom becomes a home office with an ochre corduroy wingback chair in the corner, a garden drum and more of that awesome built-in shelving. Working from home these days? No problem. We’ve got your WFH solutions right here. Just try getting some work done though while staring at those gorgeous windows and that backyard view. We tied in just the right amount of subtle ochre details in the office shelving decor to work with the ochre chair. A guest bedroom — complete with center-beamed ceiling and original diagonal muntin casement windows — is treated to a gray and cream color scheme with a textural round jute rug below that we love for its earthy quality. All the built-in shelving and hardware were constructed of the same materials, so we were able to create vignettes of warm, fascinating objects throughout the home — including this one in the upstairs hallway. Tall ceilings call for tall headboards, like the one on this linen tufted bed. To modernize its classic traditional lines, we’ve added a modern crosshatch comforter from CB2, a Parachute linen blanket, Moroccan wool rug, textural terra cotta lamps, Mid Century modern nightstands and a graphic pillow cover from H&M Home.
