Farmhouse Style in Culver City

We’re known mostly for our Mid Century modern style, but lately we’ve been sought out for our urban farmhouse staging prowess. It’s a lot of fun and we enjoy the opportunity to switch things up. Here, we mixed organic modern shapes with cozy neutral texturals to create the ultimate modern LA farmhouse.

We think Joanna Gaines would be right at home in this living room (even though it’s not in Waco, TX). You can’t beat the combination of a seagrass rug, nubby accent pillows, a little brass — and a whole lotta warmth by way of a pom-pom throw and linen upholstery.

Wherever you have a little extra space, try adding a pouf instead of a chair. It mixes things up a bit and allows for additional seating for a crowd. And never miss out on the opportunity to lean a rustic ladder against the wall to hang a comfy throw.

Every home deserves an entry — and this serendipitous space under the stairs allowed us to place a console table for all those little things that can get lost in the shuffle — car keys, dog leashes and the like.

What’s a modern farmhouse without a high-personality stairway, warm wood floors and crisp white walls? Just add fiddle leaf fig.

Atop a spotted cowhide rug, a Mid Century-styled dining table and chairs add a top-note of sleek to counter-balance our transitional elements. Simple charcoal-toned pottery with huge Monstera leaves keep it real.

The play of wood cabinetry against clean white quartz and tile is classic and timeless. This open concept kitchen wins high praise from us for its ability to span styles — without looking gimmick-y.

We used a set of organic-shaped counter stools to heighten the effect of the wood cabinets, their hairpin legs contrasting nicely with the furniture shapes around them.

Don’t know about you, but we would take our coffee and croissant break right here every day. It’s even an impromptu work space if you’re working from home like so many are these days.

Upstairs, a master bedroom retreat beckons and promises world-class napping. Can you resist sinking into this soft bed with a kitten or two? We kept it light and bright with just a hint of blue.

Brass and glass and a lot of class — modern column lamps stand up to the Crate and Barrel nightstands that we re-imagined with some creamy white paint and painted knobs. A fresh spray of greenery adds a note of cheer bedside.

And now for something modern — because everything else in the room leans toward transitional. The warm wood frame of the chair has a grounding effect on the room.

The master bath features the same cabinetry as the kitchen, tying the home’s finishes together. Simple styling wins the decor game here.

Larger homes with ample closet space don’t necessarily need a dresser. Here we added a bench and a large piece of ocean-inspired art

Lush floral wallpaper graces an accent wall in this cute-as-a-button kids’ room. We played up the pink by adding white and gray, an unbeatable way to keep it sophisticated while playing among the blush roses.

A guest bath features matching wood cabinetry — it all feels cohesive.

Homes with four or more bedrooms often get treated to a dedicated home office space, like this one.

A touch of trad, a touch of modern. That’s transitional in a nutshell. Rattan has a wonderful style-spanning quality and that’s why we love it for our farmhouse stagings. We found our patio furniture at Modway and Pier One.

If you’re like us, backyards have taken on a whole new meaning, as they now serve as our primary family fun space — especially with summer upon us. In LA we enjoy year-round patio weather, so backyards really become like outdoor rooms. Yep, we could live here.
