Coastal Transitional Style in LA
We love to flex our style muscles by tackling different style homes. One day, it’s a modern condo, the next may be a full-on coastal transitional space, like this adorable property we staged for Blu and White Homes.
The living room’s star player is an awesome Pottery Barn coffee table which we think resembles an antique Tibetan wheel. A simple seagrass rug, fresh striped chairs and framed batik elephant art bring a coastal feel.
Our choice for a white linen sofa with all the beachy feels is the Utopia Sofa from Living Spaces. Wide, deep and encompassing, this sofa all but begs you to drift into an afternoon nap.
We finished out the living room with our fave faux fiddle leaf fig tree from World Market and a curated selection of accessories that say “beach” in more of a whisper than a shout.
The open-plan dining room features the ample transitionally styled MORBYLANGA dining table from IKEA — one of our mainstays. We love it for its heft, sophisticated wood tone and ability to transition us from trad to modern and everything in between. We paired it with linen nailhead chairs from Living Spaces to bring in a traditional element.
A large thrifted vintage vase holds a generous spray of greenery, while large framed art graces the walls. A black-framed round mirror over a small console table echoes the matte-black lighting fixture. Underneath it all, a wool rug in a contemporary circle pattern bridges all the styles together.
The subtle sea-blue of the kitchen island informed our color decisions throughout the staging. This color appears everywhere in the home, from interior doors to cabinets. Three Tolix metal counter stools from Target’s Threshold line tie into the chrome pendants above the island and the chrome kitchen fixtures.
We painted the top of one of our fave console tables white to tie into our coastal feel and found a couple of amazing woven ottomans from Target’s new partnership with Studio McGee. We just love how this little moment turned out.
A look back toward the living room reveals a hammered metal side table we found at World Market. It adds just another texture to our already texture-rich room. Layered creams, whites and warm neutrals with loads of texture always feel beachy to us.
The master bedroom is so fresh and bright, with a big bed that’s just so “hop-in-able,” thanks to a cozy rug by Ellen DeGeneres (the woman has amazing taste) and embroidered bed linens topped with a popcorn stitch blanket. Capiz shell column lamps stand tall on Target Project 62 nightstands.
The master bath spells pure indulgence with its freestanding tub and marble tile. Just add sea sponges, bath brushes and a cute ‘lil side table to hold your paperback book or scented candle.
The seagrass mirror adds just the right tone to this very feminine space. We love to style bathrooms simply and sparely — with elements that tie into and elevate fixtures and finishes.
A neutral and inviting guest bedroom awaits its next lucky inhabitant. We furnished it with the Living Spaces Alton bed and matching nightstands and put down a Pottery Barn rug with a subtle traditional Persian pattern in beachy blue hues.
The hall bath is stunning and a destination all its own, with a fresh concrete tile floor in the home’s signature soft blue. Every detail in this home’s remodel was lovingly considered and executed with consistency. The cutest white scones ever adorn each side of the mirror.
Since a family will likely buy this home, we styled a third bedroom to appeal to the younger set. But that doesn’t mean we skimped on style. More seagrass underfoot, a playful pouf, a foo dog lamp by Jonathan Adler and a continuation of the blue hues — in this case, a stronger navy — immediately identify this room as a fun zone.
The kitchen opens onto a patio, a grassy area and a fully finished garage with its own hangout space. We styled with Modway’s new line of eucalyptus wood outdoor furniture.
White metal Tolix chairs always look fresh, especially when paired with a warm wood table.
The front porch sports two hanging chairs by Serena and Lily, the perfect way to spend a lazy coastal afternoon.
