Transitional Home on LA's Westside Planning, preparing for and staging a transitional home of this size is no small feat. But we rose to the challenge because this is fast becoming one of our favorite styles. A mix of warm and cool neutrals, textural accents, global references and touchstones of comfort are all the hallmark of new transitional style. And it can be a lot of fun to pull off. Of course when your client gives you a space like this to play in, it’s a given that something wonderful will happen. Here we have a black vertical shiplap wall in the living room and black metal framed sliding doors to the patio. This sets the room up so nicely for our fresh linen sofa, a nubby seagrass rug, tonal striped swivel chairs and a velvet side chair from Pottery Barn. A crisp black lampshade tops a tripod floor lamp in the corner and a banana leaf plant rests in a basket to the left. Our client wanted a family-friendly home and our IKEA MORBYLANGA dining table fills the bill — especially when you add the coordinating bench. Linen nailhead chairs finish out the dining set up, while a graphic tribal pattern rug underfoot brings in that all-important global influence. A rustic console holds a large white gourd lamp, a large basket and a grouping of interesting objects. Our metal and wood Tolix chairs are the just-right accent this kitchen island never knew it needed. Scaled-up decor — large vases with oversize Monstera leaves, pottery, wooden trays, cutting boards — is what a kitchen of this scale demands. We love how Mid Century modern furniture feels so at home in transitional homes. Its clean lines make it welcome anywhere. Especially when paired with a rustic industrial-style round table in the breakfast nook. The white vertical shiplap here feels fresh and provides a great contrast. More black vertical shiplap — this time in the primary bedroom, where our linen nailhead upholstered bed provides contrast and signals comfort. A plush rug underfoot, a grey upholstered bench and light wood nightstands finish out the room. You may have noticed that we matched the wood tones because it conveys a coordinated put-together vibe. Some original art on the walls in complementary neutrals. We love stretch canvas art that has wood frames. It feels so much more finished when this type of art is framed. We’re working on some DIY frames soon and we’ll post here. Here a rustic wood dresser grounds the space and adds extra clothes storage. We don’t always stage with dressers, but some bedrooms have ample space for an additional piece of furniture. It’s great to have another surface for us to style — and add a shapely lamp too! A guest bedroom is awash in soothing neutrals. Here, an adept mix of modern and trad shows what transitional is all about. Are bathrooms important to stage? Yes, definitely yes. We always keep it simple but strong. An enviable WFH space that could entice even the weariest worker to crank out some awesome ideas. Add a bookcase and a Navajo pattern wingchair and you’re off to the races — or maybe just the Zoom meeting. Blush. Millennial Pink. Whatever you like to call this color, we love it. And it’s still having a moment in our real estate market. This could be a teen girl’s bedroom or an adult guest room. Either way you use it, we think it’s pretty darn cute. Modern Farmhouse details in the stair rail. This home had so many surprises, including this cozy upstairs family room, perfect for snuggling up to watch your favorite shows. More Mid Century lines here, with an industrial accent. Matte black metal is used throughout the staging to tie into the metal finishes chosen by our client. A cute kid’s bedroom features a nautical theme and is a sea of blue in different hues. The welcoming entryway serves as a mudroom with cute hooks to hang hats, backpacks and sweaters. We had the perfectly sized Chinese bench to fit into this niche. A freestanding bathtub in the primary bedroom suite is the ultimate in luxury. Marble tiles and neutral Turkish towels, a rope end table and a tropical plant all say spaaaaaaaahhhhh. Robin DeCapuaDecember 23, 2020Comment Facebook0 Twitter LinkedIn0 Reddit Tumblr 0 Likes
